From Brunchin' LA: The Butcher, the Baker, the Cappuccino Maker

It was love at first sight the moment I laid eyes on BBCM's colorful sunburst latte. I'll admit that my attraction was purely superficial at first. I just knew I had to get my hands on one. So when my former boss and good friend, Susan invited me to brunch to celebrate my 20 years with our organization, I didn't hesitate so select this location.

From Brunchin' LA: High Tide DTLA

High Tide is a gem hidden away somewhere in between Skid Row and the arts district of Little Tokyo. It's actually steps away from my old office, so I wasn't at all deterred by the landscape. While the outside is a bit rough, the inside is nothing short of adorable. Precisely why I chose this location to celebrate my friend, KaSandre's engagement!

Dumbo

My grandmother has instilled in me many things. Among them are wanderlust, a knack for arts and crafts, and a love of all things Disney. I was actually surprised to learn she’d never been to Disney’s El Capitan Theater and I was even more excited to remedy that problem with the release of Tim Burton’s reimagining  of Dumbo. So we purchased our tickets and to the El Capitan we went...

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times- there’s no other place to see a Disney (or Marvel) movie. They add a bit of Disney magic to every show. For Dumbo, the lobby was decorated in a big top motif, with jugglers and acrobats on hand to entertain before the scheduled showtime. And what a show did they put on. They definitely got the crowd hyped before the curtain was raised!

Now, I’m always slightly worried when classics are remade. I’ve been disappointed many times when beloved films are modernized simply for the sake of pandering to a younger generation. So, I went into the theater reminding myself this would not be the Dumbo I grew up with and hoped for the best...

All of my anxieties were quickly alleviated. Tim Burton’s Dumbo is endearing as ever, with an amazing cast well-equipped to tell the timeless tale. Colin Ferrell charms as a newly single father home from war, trying to do right by his children. Danny DeVito brings  the comic relief as the ringmaster striving to keep the Medici Bros circus afloat in changing times. And Nico Parker shines as the film’s heroine, encouraging Dumbo to discover and use his gift.

Dumbo reminds us that our differences make us special and that, sometimes, belief in ourselves is all the magic we need to do great things.

Fatassery

Being that I’m a sucker for all things new and shiny objects, I tend to get seduced by new flavors of things I’ve long known I should not be eating. Still, I remain i fruited. The title of this post refers to a side project where I sought out all manner of sugary delights and other guilty pleasures in the form of an Instagram page called- yeah- Daily Fatassery. It’s been a while, but there are some new goodies on the horizon that I’m intrigued by. Such as...

Coming Soon: New Spring Beauty

The Boom Boom Bloom collection from Mac Cosmetics couldn’t be any more “spring” if it tried. Inspired by cherry blossoms and adorned in their pink petals, I’m excited about the packaging alone. It arrives March 7th.

Oscars 2019: My Favorite Red Carpet Looks

I'm not big on ceremonies (or most anything that requires my attention for an extended period of time). And while I don't possess extensive knowledge about couture or runway fashion, I do love seeing Hollywood's best and brightest descend on the red carpet (any red carpet will do) for the ultimate night of dress up. Let’s get into my favorite red carpet looks of the last night’s Academy Awards...
First off, pink is my favorite color and Angela Bassett was e.ver.y.THING in Reem Arca. She's genetically gifted to begin with, so I suspect she could've worn literally anything and still floored me. True definition of a queen.

Lego Space Hollywood

If you're in or near L.A. and your little ones (or you- I don't judge) are super hyped for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, there's a really cool experience on the corner of Hollywood and Vine that should tide them over until the movie hits theaters February 8, 2019.
